Eastern Brown Snake

Pseudechis textilis

..
DESCRIPTION

Upper colour varies from a rich copper colour to a reddish-brown or a dark olive-brown. The scales on the upperparts often have darker edges or tips which forms a reticulated pattern. Underparts are cream or salmon coloured, often with scattered orange blotches. The King Brown can reach 2 metres in length.

The Eastern Brown snake is highly dangerous and the venom from a single bite can kill if anti-venom is not given. The snake can be found throughout most of Australia, although it is not found on the coast, ranges and western slopes of south-eastern Australia from south-eastern Queensland to South Australia and south-western Western Australia. The Eastern Brown is not found in Victoria or Tasmania. It is found in a wide range of habitats, from tropical forests of northern Australia to the deserts of the interior. Often diurnal in southern parts of its range, but is often more nocturnal in the north or in hot weather. The Eastern Brown feeds on small mammals, reptiles and frogs.
