Juveniles have dark blotch on head., a black band across the nexk and sometimes prominent narrow black bands on body. The Eastern Brown can reach 2.2 metres in length.

The Eastern Brown snake is highly dangerous and the venom from a single bite can kill if anti-venom is not given. The snake can be found throughout eastern Australia from north Queensland through to New South Wales and Victoria and into the south-eastern corner of South Australia. It inhabits virtually all habitats except moist closed forest and the alps. Although the Eastern Brown is generally a shy snake, it is an extremely swift, alert, nervous and quick to retaliate if provoked, rearing the head and forebody into an S shape. The Eastern Brown feeds on a variety of reptiles and mammals.
