DESCRIPTION

Typically glossy olive-black on upper parts. Cream or yellow spots on many of the individual scales, forming a variegated or vague series of diamond shaped patterns. Lips are cream colour, barred with black.

The Diamond Python is found over most of mainland Australia except the arid centre, southern areas of Victoria, the south-eastern corner of South Australia, and most of Western Australia; it is only found in the most southerly and northerly regions of Western Australia. The python is found under an enormous variety of conditions, from rainforest to desert. It is often arboreal, but in many areas it lives in burrows made by other animals. The python is mainly nocturnal. It feeds on a variety of terrestrial vertebrates.
