For
a few years now I have been lecturing vet nurse students studying
at TAFE on the care of native animals while in a veterinary care
situation.
This
is is actually how Fauna First Aid began.
The
lectures are not only directed at vet nurse students but TVET students
as well. TVET is TAFE's Vocational Education and Training program
for HSC students, and the photo's at left show a recent TVET course.
The
wildlife course runs for around 4 hours and teaches the following

There
is an assessment at the end of the session as well as a practical
hands on, where students demonstrate what they have learnt by rescuing
and handling a native animal - well a stuffed toy one, anyway! These
toys were kindly dontated by the Australian Geographic Society and
TomFoolery.
Each
students is given the care guide titled A Veterinary Guide -
Caring for Australian Native Marsupials which includes the Spot
the Difference documents created by Linda Dennis and Sonya
Stanvic.
If
you would like to book a Fauna First Aid session for your school
or community group please contact Linda at linda@fourthcrossingwildlife.com.
