Fauna
First Aid is a wildlife lecture program that Linda established
in 2004. The
lectures are aimed at veterinary nurse students, schools and community
groups.
There
are two components to the program. The first component (and the
reason Fauna First Aid was initially developed) is directed
at vet nurse students. This is a comprehensive program that teaches
students how to manage native animals in a veterinary care situation.
The lecture includes topics such as handling technique, housing
and appropriate diet.
The
second component of Fauna First Aid comprises of two lecture
programs- school groups (or other children's groups, such as Girl
Guides) and community groups. The school group program teaches
children the dangers of handling native animals and advises what
an adult (such as Mum or Dad) can do to help rescue a native animal
and provides information for short term care periods. The second
program that is directed at community groups encourages the public
to be actively involved in rescuing native animals in distress
and teaches rescue technique, initial first aid and short term
care tips.
Fourth
Crossing Wildlife is incredibly proud to announce that as
from June 2005 the Australian Geographic Society is sponsoring
the Fauna First Aid lectures.
Linda
could not be more honored to receive sponsorship and thanks the
Australian Geographic Society from the bottom of her heart.
The donations and sponsorship will help Linda teach the public
- adults and children alike - how to correctly handle native animals
that have been injured or are in distress which will help prevent
the animal and the handler from be injured during contact.
